History

Ira Craik was the youngest son of William and Mary Craik. Ira farmed the homestead until 1912 when he left to work in the grain elevator in Greenway. The farm was taken over by his brother George. Ira married Cordelia Bella May Young on June 13, 1917. Cordelia was born at Cypress River on February 24, 1896 and attended Brandon Normal School. She had taught in Selkirk School District during 1916 and was married at age 21. Ira and Cordelia went on to have four children - Russell, Jean and Donald. In 1925, Ira and his wife took over operation of the store in Greenway which had been started by his parents. Ira retired from the Greenway store in 1974 and the contents of the building were sold at auction in 1975. He and his wife Cordelia both passed away in 1981.
