Biographical history

Connie Merasty is a Swampy Cree and Two-Spirit person from the Opaskwayak Cree Nation in Manitoba. She has worked with the Opaskwayak Educational Authority, the Canadian Aboriginal AIDS Network, and Two Spirited People of Manitoba. Her career has also involved human rights activism, dancing, writing, and acting.

Custodial history

These records were owned and collected by Connie Merasty, which she donated to the Archives in 2019. Merasty’s personal photographs were digitized by the Archives, and the originals returned to her.

Scope and content

Fonds reflects some facets of Merasty’s career in activism, including AIDS advocacy and Indigenous issues; as well as her career in performance, as a drag queen and an actor. Includes photographs depicting gatherings and drag events, personal ephemera, publications, material from the 16th International AIDS Conference in Toronto, and reviews and other material related to the two productions Merasty was involved in: the play Hectic and the film Stryker.
