Biographical history

In 1917, a Chinese Mission known as the Chinese Christian Association (CCA) was founded in Winnipeg by Reverend Mar Sheung and Mr. Wong Soon Hong. Both the Presbyterian and Methodist Mission Boards supported the Chinese Mission, also known as the Logan Avenue Mission. The CCA was located at 418/420 Logan Avenue in Winnipeg from 1917 until 1947, when the basement of a new church was constructed at the corner of Princess and Pacific Avenue. Construction of the new church remained incomplete until 1970, when work began on the sanctuary financed by the congregation and the Home Missions Board. During construction of the sanctuary, the congregation worshipped in the House of Prayer on Alexander Avenue. With the dedication of the new sanctuary in 1971 the Chinese congregation finally had a complete church structure to serve them. The Chinese United Church is located at 281 Pacific Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
