Biographical history
Ada Janet Ross was born in Toronto, Ontario on August 11, 1867, and graduated from the Winnipeg General Hospital School of Nursing in 1905. She was appointed Lady Superintendent of the new Selkirk Hospital in 1908. A few months later, she resigned from that position, only to return the following year. In 1912, she took a six month Post - Graduate course at the Women's Hospital in New York. She went overseas as a Nursing Sister in April of 1915, and for two years she was connected with the First Canadian Hospital in France. She visited Canada in August 1917 on transport duty before returning to England to work at the Buxton Hospital. Shortly after arriving in England, Miss Ross contracted Tuberculosis and though it was recommended that she be sent back to Canada, her illness progressed rapidly and she died in Buxton on July 12, 1918.
Custodial history
The records of Ada Janet Ross came to the archives/museum of the Winnipeg General Hospital/Health Sciences Centre Nurses Alumnae Association as part of a transfer of records from Joyce Ross in May 2007 and from Margo Ross on October 5, 1992.
