Biographical history

John Turner Clarke Sr. was born March 22, 1846 at Ballernslor County Galway Ireland and came to Canada in 1863. He settled in Toronto, Ontario and was a shoemaker by trade. He served with the Toronto Field Battery during the Fenian Raid in 1866. In 1869 he married Margaret Gibson on September 22, 1869. They had eight children: Annie, Will, John, George, Edith, Emma, Ethel and Tom.
In 1879 the Clarke family moved to Manitoba and settled on the North half of section 35-10-19 in the R.M. of Cornwallis. John Turner Clarke Sr. died on September 27, 1932 in Brandon, Manitoba. His son John Turner Clarke Jr. was born January 12, 1876 in Toronto, Ontario. He began farming in 1892 in the R.M. of Cornwallis, Manitoba. On Febraury 5, 1902 he married Mary Cynthia Burgess. They had two children Mildred Irene and Russell. John Turner Clarke Jr. passed away on February 25, 1957 at Brandon Manitoba. Mildred Irene Clarke ( 1904-1985) married David John Black in 1929. They moved to the Clarke homestead in 1935 and retired to Brandon in 1966.
