Biographical history

Catherine Kim Taylor was born in Toronto, Ontario. She began her ballet training at the National Ballet School at the age of nine, and transferred the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School in 1974. She made her professional debut with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet during the 1975/1976 season and joined the RWB the following year as a member of the corps de ballet. In 1977, she began to teach at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School’s Professional Division. In 1979, she became the regisseur for the RWB, during which time she returned to the stage in character roles such as Juliet’s nurse in Romeo and Juliet, Giselle’s mother in Giselle, and the Queen in both Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty. She served as Assistant to the Artistic Director from 1985 to 2000. She returned the following year as a guest Ballet Mistress. In 2012, she was appointed the artistic director of the Quinte Ballet School of Canada.

Custodial history

The records of Catherine Taylor came to the Royal Winnipeg Ballet archives as several transfers of records from the RWB and were also collected by members of the Alumni Association.
