History

The Carberry and District Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1959 to promote such activities as the 4-H clubs, town projects and beautification, the Carberry Agricultural Society's Annual Fair, and the Easter Seal Campaign for Crippled Children. During the World Wars, it supported Red Cross Blood drives, salvage work, and European was survivor assistance. Its predecessor was the Carberry Board of Trade, founded in 1897 to improve public services of the village, and to lobby governments to assist. It has been affiliated with a large number of Chambers of Commerce from the central Manitoba area through the organization Manitoba Highway No. 28 Association. Significant individuals in the Chamber's history include W. N. Balfour and John G. Crich.
