Administrative history

Built in 1899, the Burns Church served the community of Clegg, seven miles north of Morden in the Rural Municipality of Pembina, until 1950. Burns Church first began as a point on a Presbyterian circuit served by Reverend Cameron in 1881. In 1884, Morden, Nelson, Clegg and Mountain City were joined as a mission field. In 1926, Burns Church was served by St. Paul's United Church in Morden. Clegg officially joined the United Church of Canada in 1944. The church last appeared in the United Church Yearbook in 1950, but church records state the church closed in 1953. The building was sold in 1954.

Custodial history

The records of Burns United Church came to The United Church of Canada Archives-Conference of Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario as part of a transfer of records from the St. Paul's United Church in Morden in June, 1988.

Scope and content

The records of the Burns United Church held at the conference archives include records of the congregation (1944-1954).
