Biographical history

Brookdale United Church has existed in the Manitoba community of Brookdale, located southwest of Neepawa in the Rural Municipality of North Cypress, since 1925. Its predecessor was Brookdale Methodist Church built in 1904. The cornerstone was re-laid on August 5, 1939 after the church's basement was enlarged. The church was moved and remodeled in 1954, and was rededicated on February 21, 1954. The cornerstone was again re-laid on September 26 of that year. At Union in 1925, the Brookdale pastoral field also included Gordon and Lornedale with Rev. Wm. B. Sallans officiating. Lornedale was replaced in 1927 by Oberon. Ingelow joined the charge in 1949. In 1962, Oberon United Church amalgamated with Brookdale and no longer appears as a preaching point after 1964. Three years later, on June 30, Ingelow also amalgamated with Brookdale United Church. Gordon was dropped as a preaching point when the Brookdale Pastoral charge became part of the Larger Parish of Neepawa, which also included Arden, Eden, Birnie and Riding Mountain on July 1, 1971. As of 2007, the Neepawa charge consisted of Neepawa, Arden and Brookdale as part of the Agassiz Presbytery.
