Biographical history

Broadway United Church existed in the Winnipeg district of Broadway from 1925 until 1927. The predecessor of Broadway United Church was the Broadway Methodist Church and the successor was St. Stephen's-Broadway United Church. Organization of a Methodist Church in the Broadway area began in 1904, at a meeting in the home of Mr. J. H. Ashdown. This group of men became the building committee and ultimately the founders of Broadway Methodist Church. The formation of a Methodist congregation in the Broadway district was also, in part, a response to the popularity of Grace Church. Construction of Broadway Methodist Church was completed in 1907. The first permanent minister called by the congregation was Rev. S. P. Rose. In 1925, Broadway Methodist Church joined the United Church of Canada, becoming Broadway United Church. Two years later, Broadway United Church joined with St. Stephen's Presbyterian Church to become St. Stephen's-Broadway United Church.

Custodial history

The records of Broadway United Church came to The United Church of Canada Archives-Conference of Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario as part of several transfers of records in 1984 and 1995 from Broadway United Church.
