Biographical history

Albert Cowley was born February 5, 1918 in Carrot River Valley to George Cowley and Caroline Lathlin. His grandparents were James and Nancy Lathlin. His family was from Opaskwayak Cree Nation. Albert attended The Pas Day School in Opaskwayak until he was about 13 years old, at which point he began working to help support the family after his father died. He worked for the railroad for 14 years, and also went trapping down the river via his team of 5 dogs. His wife was Mary Louise Buck, daughter of Zacheus and Elsie Buck, whom he married when she was 24 years old. They had 8 children together during their 50 years of marriage. Albert was 88 years old at the time of the interview. Albert passed away on September 17, 2010.

Scope and content

Consists of one minidisk (PA2008.1.18), one CD (PA2008.1.7) and a transcript for the interview with Albert Cowley conducted by Conrad Merasty and Brenda Bignell. The interview is very brief; the topics covered are limited to his life and family history.
