Biographical history

Bissell Memorial United Church has existed in the Manitoba community of Grahamdale, located south of Lake St. Martin in the Rural Municipality of Grahamdale, since 1935. It first appears as a Presbyterian Student Mission field in 1920. It was part of the Step Rock Pastoral charge from 1930 to 1934, and then joined the Ashern Pastoral charge. The Bissell Memorial Fund under the jurisdiction of the Board of Home Missions provided the financial support that allowed a church to begin construction in 1935. It was officially opened in late 1936 and given the name Bissell Memorial United Church. The building belonged to the Board of Home Missions. Bissell Memorial United Church joined the Northwest Interlake Pastoral charge when it was created on October 12, 1954. As of 2010, Bissell Memorial United Church is part of the Southwest Interlake Pastoral charge with Ashern and Clarkleigh in the Selkirk Presbytery.
