Administrative history
Built in 1932, the Beth Jacob Synagogue served the Jewish communities of Estevan, Hirsch, and Weyburn Saskatchewan until 1957.
When many of the Jewish families in the area left for bigger cities, the community sold the building to the town of Estevan. The proceeds of the sale went towards the construction of Congregation Estevan Beth Jacob Synagogue in Israel, where the ark and Torah scrolls from the Saskatchewan congregation were sent. In the town’s possession, the building was converted into a public library.
