Administrative history

Ben Dembinsky was born in Cornwall, Ontario in 1885; he arrived in The Pas, Manitoba in 1914. He was a merchant who had been active in the fur trade in the Churchill area. He served on the Town Council for The Pas and as Mayor of the Town of The Pas. Ben Dembinsky and Oscar Hyman opened the Western Trading Store in 1920. The store would later be known as Everybody’s and Ben Dembinsky Ltd., with another store opened in Flin Flon. After the death of Ben Dembinsky in 1960, the business was taken over by his son-in-law, Harry Trager, and operated as Harry Trager Ltd. until it was closed in the 1970s after 60 years of operation.
