Effie Alida May (Dempsey) Balfour (1901-1993) collected souvenirs of the Carberry, Manitoba area. She was born on a farm near Carberry and died in [Carberry]. Her parents were Delia and Thomas H. Dempsey and she had siblings Mildred and Frank. In 1944 she married W. Norman Balfour, and ran Balfour Insurance after his death in 1956. Balfour had taken her early education at Fairview School, and Carberry Public and High School. She later sang in the United Church choir and was its organist. William Norman Balfour (1886-1956) ran Balfour Insurance in Carberry, Manitoba after the death of his brother Wilfred C. Balfour. He was born at Omemee, Ontario and died in [Carberry]. His parents were an unnamed woman and William Balfour. In 1900 Balfour had come west with his parents to the Linwood, Manitoba district. In 1907 he took up a homestead at Lawson, Saskatchewan and farmed until 1915, when he returned to Manitoba. Balfour enlisted in the 203rd Battalion in Winnipeg, serving overseas for two years. He returned to Canada and to farming, and later was a grain buyer in Saskatchewan. In 1927 he moved to Carberry to take over Balfour Insurance. He was a member of several local organisations, and served on the Carberry Town Council between 1952-1955.

Wilfred C. Balfour ([1878]-1927) was Mayor and Councilor of Carberry, Manitoba and also ran Balfour Insurance in Carberry, Manitoba. He was born at Omemee, Ontario and died in [Carberry]. He had siblings William Norman, Kate, and two unnamed sisters. Balfour married Edith Cumming ([189-?]-1911) in 1910 and they had an unnamed daughter. He was a member of a Lodge known locally as the A.F. and A.M. Further biographical information is unknown.
