Administrative history

Austin United Church has existed in the Manitoba community of Austin, west of Portage la Prairie in the Rurual Municipality of North Norfolk, since 1925. Its predecessor was a Presbyterian church built in 1889. Rev. John A. Beattie was the first United minister. From Union until 1961, the charge included Melvin. The congregation began to discuss building a new church in January of 1955. A new church was eventually built on the site of the previous church and dedicated on June 19, 1960. The previous church was sold to a J. Gilmour for $1000. Austin United Church became part of the Austin- Sidney Pastoral charge on December 31, 1961 with Arizona, Edrans and Sidney. Although the name remains the Austin - Sidney Pastoral charge, Austin has been the only preaching point since 1999. Austin United Church closed June 30, 2009.
