Its predecessor was a Presbyterian church built in 1889. Rev. John A. Beattie was the first United minister. From Union until 1961, the charge included Melvin. The congregation began to discuss building a new church in January of 1955. A new church was eventually built on the site of the previous church and dedicated on June 19, 1960. The previous church was sold to a J. Gilmour for $1000. Austin United Church became part of the Austin- Sidney Pastoral charge on December 31, 1961 with Arizona, Edrans and Sidney.
