Administrative history

The Assiniboine Historical Society was founded by a group of local Brandon and area historians in January 1970. The first officers of the society were president Garth Stouffer, treasurer Lloyd Jackson, and secretary Connie Davidson.
The mandate of the Assiniboine Historical Society was to promote interest in public history; to publish and promote publications relating to public history; to collect and preserve local historical material; to mark and preserve historical sites; and to cooperate with the larger Manitoba Historical Society.
All members of the Assiniboine Historical Society paid yearly dues. A 12 member board of directors was elected annually at an Annual General Meeting.Two weeks before each AGM, a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer would be elected. No officer of the Assiniboine Historical Society was allowed to recieve renumerations. Regular meetings were held monthly by the society. Two auditors were hired to keep track of the books. The Assiniboine Historical Society was disbanded in 1995.

Custodial history

The collection was accumulated by the Assiniboine Historical Society. It was donated to the Daly House Museum between 1978 and 1999.

Scope and content

The collection consists of records created by the Assiniboine Historical Society. The records include, photographs and other historical documents from the Brandon area; meeting minutes; financial records; correspondence records; heritage publications; film committee and street name committee documents; a constitution; documents relating to the Manitoba Historical Society; walking tour documents; and some miscellaneous files. The documents are arranged in the following series:
