He began ballet training at the Boston School of Ballet as a way to augment his gymnastics skills, but nine months later he quit Grade Twelve to focus on a dance career. He made his professional debut with the Boston Ballet and continued to perform with them for three years before joining the Joffrey Ballet as a member of the corps de ballet. He would later be promoted to demi-soloist. He returned to the Boston Ballet in 1969, where he eventually promoted to Principal Dancer. He left the RWB in 1976. Two years later, he joined the Boston Repertory Ballet. At the same time, he began a teaching career, and taught Boston Repertory Ballet School, Wellesley College, Boston Conservatory, Boston Ballet School and Walnut Hill School.
