General note

Anna Catherine Kenner (nee McLaren), an 1898 graduate of Brandon General Hospital's school of nursing, died November 24, 1965 at the age of 92. At the time of her death, she was the oldest graduate of the school. Anna was born in Bracebridge, Ont., on August 21, 1873 and moved with her family to a farm in the Virden district in 1883. She entered the Brandon General Hospital Nurses' School of Training in 1895 and was the first graduate of its three-year course. Anna did private nursing in Alexander and Pierson before being appointed head nurse at a newly built hospital in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. In 1900, she married shopkeeper William Staples Kenner (1865-1952) of Pierson. They had a son, William E. "Ewing" (-1974) and a daughter, Kathleen Kennedy. Anna was a leader in the Rebekah Lodge, United Church Women, Women's Institute, and Red Cross.
