Biographical history

Sergeant Alfred Francis Richardson of the Canadian Infantry Corps led a distinguished career in the Second World War, serving in Western Europe. In the fighting at the Leopold Canal and the Scheldt Pocket during October 1944, Sergeant Richardson of the Royal Winnipeg Rifles demonstrated great leadership and devotion to duty under fire. Sgt. Richardson was part of the Number 9 Platoon in Company A of the Royal Winnipeg Rifles, and later acting Platoon Commander.

Record PA93.2.1 was donated to the Sam Waller Museum by Alfred Richardson on the 13th of May, 1993.

Scope and content

The Alfred Richardson fonds consists of a variety of certificates and letters concerning notification of military honours. The first two items are certificates of honour for outstanding service in the campaign in North West Europe during WWII from a Field Marshal and Secretary of State for War. The remaining items are letters concerning awards and medals for Richardson’s actions from various government departments including the United States Embassy, and a write up on what Richardson did to deserve these medals and awards.
