History
Alexander Gamayunov was born in Kyiv, Ukraine and studied ballroom dancing from 1982 to 1985, when he started training with the National Ballet School of Ukraine. He joined the Kiev Ballet Company in 1993, eventually becoming a Principal Dancer. He earned a Master’s Degree for teaching and choreography from the National University of Culture and Art in 1999.
He joined the Royal Winnipeg Ballet as a member of the corps de ballet in 2001 and was promoted to second soloist in 2003 and then first soloist in 2005. He became a Canadian citizen in 2007. After his retirement in October of 2013, he remained at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet as a member of the RWB School’s Artistic Faculty. He teaches ballet, character, and variations and prepares students for performances.
