Yeddeau, David

David Hugh Yeddeau was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and attended theatre school before becoming the stage manager of a touring Chautauqua Theatre Company. When he returned to Winnipeg, he gained experience acting, directing, painting scenes, staging and make-up and also taught drama. He began his career with the Winnipeg Ballet when it began in 1939. He was first assigned as stage manager and technical assistant to Gweneth Lloyd, but his responsibilities grew to include publicity and company manager. He was responsible for the creation of the Canadian Ballet Festivals, first hosted by Winnipeg in 1948. He left for Toronto in 1949, although he was still involved with the touring for the Winnipeg Ballet until about 1951. He became involved with the creation of the Canadian Opera Company and was responsible for many of the CNE Grandstand productions in Toronto. He also served as the Managing Director of various theatre companies across Canada. David Yeddeau passed away on August 30, 1992 in Toronto, Ontario.

Yoshida, Dale

Dale Yoshida was born in London, Ontario and began her dance training at the Dorothy Scruton Academy of Dance. She also attended the Elliot Lake Summer Course, Lois Smith’s Summer School and Banff Summer School. She entered the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School Professional Division in 1976, where she made her professional debut in 1978. She joined the Royal Winnipeg Ballet as part of the corps de ballet in July of 1978. She remained a member of the corps de ballet until she left the company in 1983. In 1987, Dale joined the dance programme faculty at Western University, where she taught Ballet Fundamentals from 2005 through to 2011. She continues her position of Lecturer in the Don Wright Faculty of Music in the Music Education department and is co-director of “Studies in Motion”, an annual production of student compositions. She also teaches at the North London Dance Centre in London and guest teaches throughout southern Ontario.

Young, Marilyn

Marilyn Young was born July 26, 1936 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She began her dance training in 1942 with Gweneth Lloyd and Betty Farrally, but also received training at the Banff School of Fine Arts, the New York City Ballet School and classes with Robert Joffrey. Her first appearance with the Winnipeg Ballet was as a lamb in Façade Suite at the age of ten. Two years later she appeared as The Sister in Finishing School, and continued to join the company on tours. Marilyn made her official Winnipeg Ballet debut in June 1953 and became a principal dancer in 1955. She has also performed at Theatre Under the Stars in Vancouver, Rainbow Stage, and performed in several CBC dance television series and specials as well as the lead role in CBC’s production of The Bitter Weird.
She married Grant Marshall in 1959 but remained principal dancer until 1962, when she retired to raise a family. After her retirement, however, she did continue to return as a guest artist for another two years. She later served on the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Board in various capacities, including the Chair of the Production Committee. Marilyn is currently an Honorary member of the Board’s Council. She has been on the Executive of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Alumni Association since 1990 and is currently its president.
