Biographical history

Abram P. Bueckert, minister and farmer, was born on September 2, 1892 in the village of Schoeneberg, Chortitza Colony, South Russia. He was one of five children born to Peter and Margareta (nee Klassen) Bueckert. As a child Bueckert attended the village school, then two years at the Zentralschule in New York (Ignatievo Colony) and finally completed his education at the Zentralschule in Chortitza.Bueckert was baptized in Osterwick on May 15, 1912 by Aeltester Isaak Dyck and became a member of the Chortitza Mennonite Church. Between 1914 and 1917 he served in the forestry. On May 28, 1919 he married Helen Krahn. Their marriage produced two children, a son and a daughter. In 1924, after surviving war, revolution and famine, Bueckert and his family came to Canada. They arrived in Winkler, Manitoba on August 11, 1924 and bought a farm near Gnadenthal. In 1928 Bueckert was elected to the ministry and ordained on August 10, 1930by his brother, Aeltester Johann Bueckert. He gave up farming in 1956 and moved to Winkler. The remainder of his life was marked by failing health and after several operations he was confined to a wheelchair. Abram P. Bueckert died on February 8, 1975 having served the church for 47 years.

This fonds contains five sermons: 1)"Fehlt dir etwas?" (Are You Lacking Something?) based on Acts 26:24-29 2)"Das Licht der Welt" (The Light of the World) based on John 8:12 3)"Sehet Welch ein Mensch!" (Behold, What a Man!) based on John 19:1-11 4)"Christo nachfolgen, das ist die Aufgabe der Christen" (Discipleship is the Duty of all Christians) based on Matthew 16:24 5) "Das Gebet des Glaubens" (The Prayer of Believers) based on Mark 11:23-25.
